Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance

On September 20, 2013, Detective Corporal Raddatz observed a gold Toyota truck parked in the rear lot of the Wildewood community swimming pool located in California, Maryland. As he approached the vehicle to contact the driver he smelled an odor of marijuana. The driver, identified as Mason Steven Patrey, 19, of California, Maryland, turned over a cigarette pack containing a plastic bag of a leafy green substance consistent with marijuana, rolling papers, and a metal tube (smoking device). Patrey was placed under arrest and searched. Two (2) pills, consistent with Adderall, were found in Patrey’s sweatshirt. Patrey was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center by Deputy John Davis and charged with Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) – Marijuana, CDS Possession – Not Marijuana, CDS Possession – Paraphernalia.

Theft

On September 20, 2013, Loss Prevention Personnel from the Best Buy store located in California, Maryland observed a female subject on video surveillance select two (2) Apple IPods from the shelf and use a device to remove the magnetic housing. She then handed the IPods to a male subject who placed both IPods into the back pockets of his jeans. Neither subject had money or means of paying for the merchandise. Both subsequently admitted to what they had done. The merchandise was valued at nearly $500.00. Aishia Fraction, 24, of Baltimore, Maryland and Kwama Pili Cheecks, 25, of Baltimore, Maryland were placed under arrest and charged with Theft Less than $1,000.

Trespass

On September 18, 2013, Deputy Wood of the Special Operations Division COPS Unit observed Thomas Raymond Banks, 57, of Great Mills, Maryland in the parking lot of the Lex’s Laundromat located in Lexington Park, Maryland. Deputy Wood knew Banks had previously been served with a notice not to trespass for that location on July 9, 2011 by Deputy Teague. Banks was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Trespassing on Private Property. 

Trespass

On September 18, 2013, Deputy Wood of the Special Operations Division COPS Unit observed Peggy Lynn Jones, 39, of Lexington Park, Maryland walking in the area of Great Mills Road and Sheriff Medinzski Way (parking lot) in Lexington Park, Maryland. Deputy Wood knew Jones had previously been served with a notice not to trespass for that location on May 22, 2012 by Deputy Potter. Jones was placed under arrest and charged with Trespassing on Private Property.

Trespass

On September 19, 2013, Deputy Flerlage of the Patrol Division responded to a residence in Lexington Park, Maryland for a trespassing complaint. The complainant reported a male subject was on the property of the residence after having been issued a notice not to trespass. Deputy Flerlage made contact with the subject who identified himself as James brown. As Deputy Flerlage returned to the residence to speak with the complainant, the subject fled on foot into a wooded area. He was subsequently apprehended by Corporal Connelly. Corporal Connelly recognized the subject to be Shawn Michael Miles, 21, of no fixed address and not James Brown. Miles had been issued a notice not to trespass for the complainant’s residence on May 23, 2013 by Deputy Lloyd. Miles was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Trespassing: Private Property and False Statement to Police Officer.

Assault/Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance/Possess Contraband Place of Confinement 

On September 21, 2013, Deputy Lacey Johnson of the Patrol Division responded to an address in Lexington Park, Maryland after the victim reported a domestic disturbance. During a dispute, the suspect, who resides with the victim, pushed the victim and struck the victim with a cat scratcher on the side of the face. Deputy Johnson observed evidence of fresh injury on the side of the victim’s face. The suspect, identified as Nicole Marie Grannis, 32, of Lexington Park, Maryland, was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. During a search of Grannis’ belongings at the detention center, one half of a valium pill was located in her wallet. Grannis was charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance – Not Marijuana, and Possession Contraband Place of Confinement.  

Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance  

On September 20, 2013, Deputy Bowen of the Patrol Division responded to the area of Midway Drive in Lexington Park, Maryland after the Emergency Communications Center received a report of shots being fired in that area. Deputy Bowen observed a Honda Accord operating in the area without the headlights on. Deputy Bowen stopped the vehicle and detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Corporal Rishel responded and conducted a scan of the vehicle with his K9 partner. The K9 alerted positively to the driver’s side area for presence of a controlled dangerous substance. A search of the driver’s side door pocket revealed a plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance consistent with cocaine. The driver, identified as Brian Deandre Bush Jr., 20, of Mechanicsville, Maryland was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Bush was charged with Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance – Not Marijuana. 

Trespass

On September 23, 2013, Jerome Daniels, 36, of no fixed address repeatedly entered the victim’s residence located in Lexington Park, Maryland after having been escorted from the property by police and told to leave by the victim. Daniels returned to the victim’s residence once more and was placed under arrest by Deputy Vezzosi of the Patrol Division. Daniels was intoxicated at the time of his arrest. He was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged with Trespassing: Private Property.  

Disorderly Conduct/Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance/Possession Paraphernalia/Possess Contraband Place of Confinement

On September 22, 2013, Deputy Vezzosi responded to an address in Lexington Park, Maryland for a disturbance. Witnesses at the residence reported suspect Denise Lee-Nora Strain, 50, of Lexington Park, Maryland was intoxicated and banging on the windows and doors. Deputy Vezzosi contacted Strain in the area and she began yelling at him as well as the witnesses. She was told numerous times to stop yelling and leave the area – she refused. The residence was located inside an apartment complex. Strain’s actions began to disturb the nearby apartment residents. Deputy Vezzosi placed Strain under arrest and she was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. During a search of Strain’s person conducted by detention center staff, a small bag containing suspected cocaine was found in her bra and a smoking device with residue was found in her underwear. Strain was charged with Disorderly Conduct/Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance – Not Marijuana, Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance Paraphernalia, and Possession Contraband Place of Confinement.

Theft

On September 22, 2013, an employee of the Giant Food store located in California, Maryland observed a male subject, later identified as Michael Wayne Dement, 56, of Mechanicsville, Maryland near the entrance doors of the store with several items of merchandise in a cart. He was confronted by store employees but continued to the front doors to exit. When one of the employees told Dement he knew he was trying to steal the items, Dement left the cart with its contents and walked to a vehicle. The value of the stolen items in the cart was over $650.00. Dement was gone on the arrival of Patrol Deputy Bankhead, however with the description provided by store employees of the suspect and the vehicle he was operating, Deputy Bankhead believed the suspect to be Dement. A short time later, Dement was located operating a pick-up truck, displaying a Maryland registration plate and a North Carolina registration plate, in the area of Route 235 and Jone’s Warf Road in Hollywood, Maryland by Corporal Malleto. Dement was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Dement was charged with Theft Less Than $1,000 and issued several traffic citations.

Assault

On September 21, 2013, the victim was standing in front of his house located in Lexington Park, Maryland talking to a neighbor. Suddenly, suspect Andrew Eugene Robinson, 30, of Lexington Park, Maryland ran up to the victim and poked the victim in the chest with a tire iron. Robinson then punched the victim in the face with his fist. Robinson was located by Deputy James Shomper and placed under arrest. He was transported to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and charged with 1st and 2nd Degree Assault. 

Trespass 

On September 22, 2013, Walter Dennis Cooper, 30,  of Hollywood, Maryland was escorted from the Fairgrounds property located in Leonardtown, Maryland after he caused a disturbance with ride workers at the annual St. Mary’s County Fair. Cooper was told not to return to the property by Patrol Corporal Somerville. A short time later, Cooper was found at the fair on the property by Corporal Somerville. Cooper was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center by Deputy Gaskill. He was charged with Trespassing: Private Property. 

Theft

On September 17, 2013, Deputy Phelan of the Patrol Division responded to a residence located in Charlotte Hall, Maryland for a theft of prescription medication. The complainant reported oxycodone pills prescribed to her daughter were missing. Deputy Phelan interviewed a houseguest of the complainant identified as James Matthew Goldsmith, 38, of Prince Frederick, Maryland. While speaking with Goldsmith, Deputy Phelan observed him to appear nervous and placing his hands inside of his pockets despite requests not to do so. After obtaining consent to search his person, Deputy Phelan located oxycodone pills, (in packaging described by the complainant), inside Goldsmith’s pockets. Goldsmith was also wanted on an outstanding warrant through the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Goldsmith was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Theft Less Than $1,000 and Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance – Not Marijuana.

Assault

On September 21, 2013, Deputy Vezzosi of the Patrol Division responded to a residence located in Leonardtown, Maryland for a reported assault. The victim and live in boyfriend, identified as David Wayne Gosnell, 38, of Leonardtown, Maryland were engaged in an argument when he grabbed the victim’s wrists causing injury. Deputy Vezzosi observed fresh evidence injury on both of the victim’s wrists. Gosnell was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Gosnell was charged with 2nd Degree Assault. 

Alcohol Violation

On September 17, 2013, Demetri Paul Brooks, 18, of Lexington Park, Maryland was found on the property of the Days Inn located in Lexington Park with an open container of an alcoholic beverage by Deputy Wood of the Special Operations Division COPS Unit. Brooks was issued a Criminal Citation for the alcohol violation.

Alcohol Violation

On September 21, 2013, Carol Andrea Gregory, 52, of Lexington Park, Maryland was found on the poperty of Canopy Liquors located in Lexington Park with an open container of an alcoholic beverage by Deputy Beishline of the Special Operations Division COPS Unit. Gregory was issued a Criminal Citation for the alcohol violation.

Assault

On September 22, 2013, Deputy Lloyd of the Patrol Division spoke to a victim who reported being assaulted at a residence in Great Mills, Maryland. During an argument, William Lamont Taylor, 24, of Great Mills punched the victim in the back of the head and attempted to strangle the victim with his hands. Other occupants of the residence were able to intervene and Taylor fled the scene prior to police arrival. Deputy Lloyd observed fresh evidence of injury on the victim’s neck. Taylor was located by Deputy Lloyd a short time later and admitted to assaulting the victim in the manner described. Taylor was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with 2nd Degree Assault.
